If you’re craving incredible views, crisp mountain air, and Fall vibes, then a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia should be at the top of your list!
Just a couple of hours from Richmond, this iconic stretch of road winds through some of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. Think sweeping mountain vistas, forests that go on forever, and quaint little stops filled with history and charm. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker, a history buff, or someone who just wants to find the perfect scenic spot for a picnic, the Blue Ridge Parkway has a bit of magic for everyone.

I love seeing all the most amazing sights in one trip, so some of these destinations are quite a far drive from each other and not exactly defined as "Blue Ridge Parkway" but are totally worth it and some of my favorite sights in Virginia.
WHERE TO STAY:
The Airbnb we stayed at was amazing! This is the view from the cabin which came with a fireplace, hot tub and full kitchen. Highly recommend!

DAY 1:
From the airbnb, drive 49 minutes to:
RND Coffee (Roasters Next Door)
Website: https://www.roanokecoffee.com/
This adorable coffee shop has a fantastic menu of coffee and teas. They had decaf, chai lattes, and even vegan bakery items. They roast their own beans and the flavor was amazing. I even got to meet the owner and he was so sweet! The perfect way to start your trip!
48 min drive to:
Sharp Top Mountain Trail
This is one of Blue Ridge Parkway's most iconic hikes. Located at the Peaks of Otter, near Bedford, Virginia, this trail is a bit of a workout, but it rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views. The trail itself is about 1.5 miles one way (3 miles round trip) and climbs steeply, gaining over 1,200 feet in elevation.
Along the rocky path, you’ll encounter natural rock staircases, shaded forest spots, and views that just keep getting better as you climb. Once you reach the summit, you’ll be treated to 360-degree views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and valleys, making every step worth it.
If you’re looking for a shorter ascent, there’s also a shuttle that takes you partway up.
11 min drive to:
Peaks of Otter Viewpoint
The Peaks of Otter Viewpoint is one of those picture-perfect stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway, offering an ideal mix of natural beauty and serene vibes. Nestled near Bedford, Virginia, this spot gives you incredible views of the Peaks of Otter trio: Sharp Top, Flat Top, and Harkening Hill. Each mountain has its own unique shape and character, and together they create a stunning silhouette against the sky.
1 hour 7 min drive to:
Humpback Bridge
This is a charming and historic landmark nestled near Covington, Virginia. Built in 1857, this picturesque bridge is the oldest of its kind in Virginia and is known for its distinctive "humpback" shape, arching gracefully over the Jackson River. Made entirely of wood, it stretches 100 feet and was originally part of the main route for travelers heading west.
19 min drive to:
Falling Spring Falls
This is a breathtaking natural wonder located just outside of Covington, Virginia. Towering at around 80 feet, this stunning waterfall cascades down limestone cliffs into a lush, green valley below, making it one of the tallest and most impressive waterfalls in Virginia. The view from the observation area offers a perfect vantage point to take in the full beauty of the falls and the scenic Allegheny Mountains surrounding it.
Just a short walk from the parking area leads you straight to the overlook, so visitors of all ages can enjoy this natural spectacle without a strenuous hike. It's the perfect spot for an epic photo!
2 hour 6 min drive back to airbnb.

DAY 2:
Check out of airbnb. On the drive back to Richmond, it's worth it to stop at these spots!
1 hour 18 min drive to:
Natural Bridge State Park
Open: Daily from 10am-5pm
Tickets: $9 each, no need to buy ahead of time.
This is home to one of the state’s most jaw-dropping natural landmarks—a massive limestone arch, known simply as the Natural Bridge, that towers 215 feet above Cedar Creek. Formed over thousands of years, this natural wonder was once owned by Thomas Jefferson and even visited by George Washington, adding a dose of history to its impressive beauty.
The park offers much more than just the bridge itself. There is also a scenic trail that goes through the forest, stops at a cave and ends at the peaceful Lace Falls.
42 min drive to:
Morris Orchard
Open: 9am-5pm daily, Sunday 1-5pm
Website: https://morrisorchard.com/
Morris Orchard is nestled at the base of High Peak Mountain in Monroe, Virginia and is a family-owned and operated farm. The orchard offers a variety of seasonal fruits, including apples, peaches, blueberries, and blackberries, all grown on-site. In the fall, guests can enjoy picking their own apples and selecting pumpkins and gourds for the season. A highlight of the orchard is their fresh-pressed apple cider, made from a signature blend of apples, including heirloom varieties, and available from mid-September through December.
Morris Orchard also offers accommodations in their renovated 1930s farmhouse and an early 1800s log cabin, both providing picturesque views of the orchards and surrounding landscapes.
1 hour drive to:
Charlottesville for dinner.
End your day in Charlottesville dining at one of the adorable restaurants located on the historic downtown mall. The downtown mall is a pedestrian-only brick-paved street that stretches for several blocks, lined with a mix of beautifully preserved historic buildings, trendy boutiques, art galleries, and a wide range of restaurants offering everything from local fare to international cuisine.
My favorite restaurants are Botanical Fare and Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar.
1 hour drive back to Richmond.
