The Perfect 1-Day April Itinerary in Richmond, VA

April is when Richmond really comes alive with blooming flowers, buzzing patios, and events popping up all over the city. It’s the perfect time to also get outside and slow down. So, I’ve put together a laid-back, totally fun day out in RVA that lets you soak up the spring magic and chill this April.

  1. Start your day with a coffee and breakfast burrito at Lamplighter Coffee Roasters.

Originally an old service station, this spot exudes a cozy, communal vibe with both indoor seating and outdoor picnic tables serving up coffee, baked goods and breakfast.

⏰ Daily, 8am-3pm

  1. Head to Maymont for a nice walk to check out the spring blossoms and blooms.

This is a 100-acre estate that blends history, nature, and adventure. Once the opulent Gilded Age residence and land of James and Sallie Dooley, it is now open to the public where visitors can visit the meticulously curated gardens and encounter wildlife. *The mansion is currently under renovations.

  1. Go window shopping at some local boutiques.

Right next to Lamplighter is a cute shopping strip featuring 3 local boutique shops. Each has their own personality but all are highly curated and such a vibe.

The Beet Box offers a diverse menu of cold-pressed juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls, and plant-based bites.

⏰ Daily, 8:30am-4:30pm

  1. Wander the Exhibits at The Branch Museum.

This is a magnificent Tudor-Revival mansion built in 1919 for John & Beulah Branch. They have rotating exhibits and the current one is about Charles Gillette (1886-1969), who was the go-to landscape architect at the time. He created the gardens of University of Richmond, Agecroft Hall, Virginia House and more!

  1. Have a cozy Thai dinner at Sabai.

This restaurant specializes in authentic Thai food, with big portions and a modern industrial vibe. 💚 My Fav: Red Curry

 🍨 Sabai

⏰ Daily, 4pm-11pm

  1. Have a nice hot tea at home watching your favorite show.

My favorite show right now is Foundation (Apple TV+). This science fiction show is inspired by Isaac Asimov's seminal book series. The narrative unfolds in a distant future where the Galactic Empire governs countless planets across the galaxy and their efforts to try to stop cataclysmic events. It's science/math nerd meets Game of Thrones.
